A property with sea views is not scarce on the Costa Blanca, as it covers a large part of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline. The Costa Blanca (which means “White Coast” in Spanish) is located in the southeast of Spain, stretching between the towns of Denia and Pilar de la Horadada, and includes the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. Many people think the name comes from the white beaches, but that is not the case—the beaches are actually golden yellow. The name dates back to the Moorish era, when the entire Costa Blanca was filled with almond trees. The blossoms that fell to the ground made everything appear white, which is where the name Costa Blanca originates.
The Costa Blanca has a total length of approximately 250 kilometers and boasts many sandy beaches. You no longer need to go to southern Spain for warmth (contrary to what many people still think), because the Costa Blanca has it all. The gastronomy here is excellent (did you know paella originally comes from Valencia?), so you’ll find plenty of fantastic restaurants, bars, and nightlife venues. The climate of the Costa Blanca has also been declared one of the healthiest in the world. Read more here about the climate of the Costa Blanca. In the area around Javea, which lies in a kind of bowl between the sea and the mountains, you’ll find a microclimate that ensures summers are not too hot and winters are not too cold.
Many people from the UK have moved to the Costa Blanca and purchased a villa or a house here. The reasons vary, but most consider it the perfect place to spend the winter and escape the cold in the UK, while others like to use their purchased property as an investment. Buying a property on the Costa Blanca is different from buying one in the UK, so it is advisable to work with a real estate agent who can inform you about everything involved in the home-buying process.
