Great news for property owners released today. For the first time since before the financial crisis, annual house sales in Spain have broken the half-a-million barrier, with a 10.1% increase in residential property changing hands in 2018
Latest figures from the National Statistics Office show a total of 515,051 homes were sold last year – a factor attributed to a combination of economic growth, financial strength, improvements in the job market, and residential property being much cheaper now than just before the ‘bubble’ burst in 2008
The INE say both new builds and second-hand homes were behind the annual growth.
The European Union will define Gibraltar as “a colony of the British Crown” in draft legislation regarding travel to the EU without visas in a hard Brexit scenario.
The move comes after the European Parliament yesterday stripped British negotiator Claude Moraes from his role after he refused to accept the contentious definition of Gibraltar, requested by the Spanish government.
By removing Moraes, the draft law can be approved with the definition of Gibraltar as a “colony,” which represents a win for Spain on an issue that Brussels has traditionally tried to remain neutral on.
